Inspiring stuff and media/booklist
So I just watched BBC's Human Planet and was pretty blown away by how humans can pretty much live anywhere. Moisture farms in the Atacama desert! Eating fermented seabirds! And I'm only on the first DVD.
So anyway, this thread is for media that's relevant to the project and self sufficiency, agriculture, etc.

Re: Inspiring stuff and media/booklist
Here are some books and resources that were suggested by Grumperson, a very generous person who dropped into chat in February, presumably from /diy/.
I may have saved other books that showed up in chat, so thank you Grumperson and everyone else who suggested something!
This Life is in Your Hands by Melissa Coleman
The Dirty Life by Kristin Kimball
The Good Life by The Nearings
Possum Living by Dolly Freed
Five Acres and Independence by Maurice Grenville Kains
The New Organic Grower by Eliot Coleman
The Omnivore's Dilemma by Michael Pollan
Please let me know if you have PDF or Ebook links to these books!

Re: Inspiring stuff and media/booklist
Thanks for the ideas! I think you got most of the relevant ones, but here's a few decent books/artcles I've heard of:
The $50 and up Underground House Book
No Building Codes by Terry Herb
"How To Buy Land Very Cheaply" by Neil Shelton

Re: Inspiring stuff and media/booklist
Good stuff, stexem. Land and shelter are of the highest priority.
But first, distractions!
I went to a small film fest today, and managed to see some pretty interesting and sometimes cheesy short films, mostly about alternative agricultural practices and environmentalism. Here's the full list and some links.
Bag It
Corner Plot
Fresh
Sustainable Northern Shelter: Anuktuvuk Pass (I could only find a short version)
The Windmill Farmer (Animation)
Trees (No link, didn't see the piece either)
Truck Farm

Re: Inspiring stuff and media/booklist
The Republic of Molossia! I remember reading about that on Wikipedia, this video does a much better job describing it though. Thanks waitwhat!
That reminds me... do you think founding a micronation within Agartha might be a good idea? I know it would be awesome but I was worried it might trivialize us or attract attention in the wrong way.

Re: Inspiring stuff and media/booklist
I think that if we get something like twenty or more people living in one town or area, then it could be something to vote on... Otherwise it seems to give the impression of delusional conditions.
That molossia guy did some awesome stuff on his 1.3 acre country, but I have trouble taking him seriously. Especially after seeing the cookie dough standard.
