Oh yeah, and before I forget, I (only half-jokingly) suggest that this classic image be our official mascot/figurehead. I recall a random /diy/er criticizing our effort by likening it to "departing Independence, Missouri with 200 Grandfather Clocks and nothing else in Oregon Trail", and I think it would be pretty funny to symbolically rub it in his face.

I like it. The artsy one with the tree for official things, and the clocks otherwise. Which reminds me, I need to find my copy of Oregon Trail.

Waitwhat, do you have a higher res version of your picture, or at least of the tree? I feel as if 378x350ish is too low to use as a logo. If I had the tree image, of which google and tinyurl cannot find, I could create a very large version.
[EDIT]: Found, looks fantastic. Next post will be the high res image, no sword.

Here's a high res version of the logo which might solve your banner problem, Filosafer. Feel free to make any changes to it you see fit

For a motto I'd think something having to do with Yggdrasil, as our logo is an image of a tree (I'm guessing this is why you made it a tree --->) and Yggdrasil is the tree of knowledge.
Also, something I have been thinking about is our colors, what about silver in the crevices between the black of the bark? Or possibly silver leafs? I believe it would create a more unique look. Though gold is usually attributed to pure knowledge, silver may be just as good symbolism.
But these are just my opinions, not needed to be taken to heart.

Including some silver would definitely add to the symbolism... I'll get to work on a version of the emblem with silver leaves tomorrow. Thanks for the idea!
In the meantime, what would be some other good colors?I'm thinking blue or purple, but I wouldn't know where to include them...

Hmm... now that I think about it, we had a discussion about mottos awhile back in this thread.

In addition, we could always come up with our own motto as opposed to using one already in existence. Something original would have a better chance of encapsulating our vision.
